A sidewalk installation in Dorandia, Pretoria North called for a surface that was functional as a pedestrian path while introducing some design character — more than a bare grey slab.
Pretoria Paving used a two-tone approach: bevel black pavers as a defined border frame, with bevel grey filling the interior of the sidewalk, all laid in a herringbone pattern. The black-and-grey contrast creates a clear, confident sidewalk that defines the pedestrian zone visually. The herringbone pattern provides the directional interlocking strength important for a pedestrian surface that needs to remain stable and level over time.
A well-considered sidewalk that is purposeful and visually resolved.
