What Makes a Patio Work Once the Furniture Is On It
Most of the patios we are called out to look at are not failing structurally — they are just unpleasant to use. Water sits in a low spot by the back door after every storm. A table rocks because the fall was set by eye. The paving stops dead against a braai that was already standing there.
So the falls go in first, away from the house and towards a garden bed or a drain, and the surface is laid flat enough to put a chair on. Where a braai, fire pit, pergola or washing line is already in place, we pave up to it and make the join deliberate. Patio, entertainment area and garden paving are quoted as one job, not three. If yours has sunk or faded rather than worn out, that is paving restoration and repairs.

What does patio paving cost?

What are the best paving materials for a patio?
No single best one. A patio carries no load, so it is a looks decision: large units, fewer joints; brick pavers, more pattern.
Do you install flagstone, sandstone and slate?
Yes. Our flagstone and slate are wet-cast concrete, not quarried stone; natural sandstone and slate are sourced in.
Is paving slippery when it is wet?
The face of the unit matters more than the material: tumbled or riven grips better wet than smooth. We quote no slip rating.
Can you pave around structures that are already there?
Yes. If a braai, fire pit or pergola is already built, we pave up to it and set levels so water drains away.
What is garden paving, and do you lay garden paths?
Anything paved that is not a driveway or patio: paths, walkways, the strip to the washing line, a shed platform.
